Cities of (G)old

My architectural studies final project at The Technion.

As part of "New Cities" studio, under the direction of Arch. Oren Ben Avraham and

Dr. Arch. Yermi Hoffman.

Academic year 2014-15.

The modern way of life, along with innovative developments in different life areas, have brought to a significant increasing of the human life span in the past century, a tendency which will be continued in the seen future.

That tendency would bring to the situation in which the population of those who are called - elderly - would grow to become a much influential part of society, for better or for worse, and it's worth considering to integrate that group inside the whole social structure of the city.

The suggestible solutions, as for today, are reflected in closed-to-environment senior housing complexes, which are a good convenient solution that allows a healthy life style for its residents. Although, these complexes are pretty expensive and are not aprouching every individual, and along that, it doesn't allow integration of the elderly with the sociaty, a disconnection that keeps the trend of antagonisim toward that population.

Another solution is the retirement nursing home that provides a solution for elders in different levels of assistant needs, but that also requires monthly financial costs of the elders' families alongside with the fact that these institutions also keep the elders inside and hidden of the public eye, which would rather deniying their existence.

In the project, I presented a much larger scaled offer that makes use of the unique terrain of the city of Haifa which is located on the Carmel mountain ridge, and provides a solution for the elderly by allowing them to stay active after the years of retirement, and also be integrated with the society by taking part of different activities in the surrounding area side by side with other populations, and beside of that, also provides solutions to the problems that rise from the urban planning on the Carmel ridge, such as making different focal points in the region more accessible to the citizens as well as to one towards the other.

You are invited to watch an animated illustration of the final planned product which is located here to the left.

It's recommanded to watch in a fullscreen display via the Youtube channel:

Model was built in Rhinoceros program, topography in Sketchup.

Accessories, effects and animation production in Lumion.

Final editting in Adobe Premiere.

Dynamic Module

The final project in the series of structural details course which focued on light structure.

In collaboration with Roi Friebroon, under the direction of Arch. Eyal Karni and Arch. Simha Afek, academic year 2013-14.

In this project we had to offer an expansion to the cafe located in the architecture faculty, in its outer square, which faces towards the Haifa bay.

Our offer was to built a structure that allows flexibilty according to the climatic changes, by building an array of dynamic modules, made of mimbranes, tin and steel, and a glass envelope which, as well as the modules, can be shifted according to varied necessities.

It's reccomended to watch the animated illustration for further understanding:

The model was built in Rhinoceros and the animation was produced in 3ds max.

The project was nominated for excellency in technological category.

Argaman (Crimson) Factory

The final project in the series of calculating structural elements courses.

In collaboration with Bezalel Eliav, academic year 2012-13.

In that studio, we practiced in turning a small area of the abandoned Argaman factory which is located in the city of Yavne, into a galleries space and a cafe.

The galleries space is designated for displays dedicated to the histories of factory from its establishment to the day it was closed, as well as for displays different obests that are connected to the activity which took place in the factory.

The model and the drawings were made in Revit program which makes the planner's work easier by allowing him to build an accurate model, that reliable plans and section can be produced out of.

Football training facility and teens sport boarding school in The Shore of Horse, Acre city.

Project of public building studio, under the direction of Arch. Uri Cohen.

Academic year 2012-13.

The sport occupation as a hobby is an integral part of my life since childhood, If it's in the different classes that I took along the years, as it's by walking in the wide spaces of my home town of Haifa, in which the very activity of walking on the ground slopes and the different staircases, can be considered as a sporty activity of some effort.

The generator of the project was the trying of making a certain hierarchy - programatic as well as phisical one, which will provide an optimal and qualitative usage of the facility.

For that purpose, Abraham Maslaw's hierarchy of needs, has come to be in use for helping defining the importance of each function in the facility, helping locating it in the wide range, as well as in connetcig each function to the other functions.

That concept of hierarchy also gave place to physical design that offers a structure that, as a whole, can be an integral part of the training activity which is the main pupose of the facility.

A 10 residential units planning project in Geula St. Hadar neighborhood, Haifa.

Residential studio, in direction of Maya Rand-Bloch, academic year 2011-12.

That one project I was determand to present in a bit unusual method, which is a short graphic story that demonstrates how Jonah, one of the building dwellers, manages to use the building, from his arrival to it, through consuming and interacting with the other dwellers, and to the staying and using of his own appartment.

Have a pleasent reading.

Boutique Hotel - Urban Square

One of my first and favored projects in the Architcture faculty of The Technion.

In collaboration with Oriya Wissberg-Nishry, during the academic year 2010-11.

The project was planning a boutique hotel in square that's located in the boundaries of Pinsky St. Habroshim St. and The President avenue. There we were planning to insert the "colorfulness" of the Carmel Center area, which is located close to the location, for creating a connection to the surroundings and making the hotel accesible to the crowd.

That "colorfulness" was reflected in the variety of materials that we used for the different exterior elements of the square, as well as the changing design that came in variety of openings, heights and corridors, design that would have given a different sensual experience for the visitor, in each and every path he or she would have chosen to pass through, everytime they would have come to the hotel area.

The project was nominated for excellency in freshman year category.
